Security Alert - 08 August 2008

Please be advised that there have been a number of violent criminal incidents in the City Botanic Gardens recently. These events have occurred during the evening and the Queensland Police Service advise that they are taking an active part in combating this anti social behaviour. However, to help keep yourself, the University and its surroundings safe you are urged to be aware and take care when enjoying the Gardens, avoid isolated areas, travel in groups, avoid the Gardens at night and to report all suspicious activity to QUT Security on telephone number 3138 5585 or free call 1800 065 585.

There have been three recent reported incidents involving the theft of lap top computers from unsecured and unattended office areas at Gardens Point. Please consider using Kensington security locking cables to secure your computer to your desk and challenge strangers in your working area.

Security Alert - 30 January 2008

There have been three recent reported incidents involving a man behaving suspiciously on Gardens Point campus. This person has entered unsecured or unattended workplaces and offices during working hours and may be linked to the reported theft of personal and University property from these areas. If you see someone that doesn’t belong in your working area call security on 88888.

There has been a recent increase in reported incidents where students who have left their belongings insecure and unattended, even for only short periods, have exposed their property to opportunistic theft.

Recently there have been several reported incidents of theft of personal and University property. This has included items such as wallets, bags and mobile phones which have been exposed to opportunistic theft when left insecure and unattended, even for only short periods.

Security Alert - 27 August 2007

There have been several recent incidents involving a suspicious male person on Carseldine and Gardens Point campus. If you think that you are being stalked or harassed, contact QUT Security who can offer personal security escorts, personal safety information and other protective services.

In order to avoid potentially dangerous situations, always assess the risks, think about what you would do if you felt threatened, and have a safety plan.
