Personal Security
- Recognise potentially dangerous situations before they develop.
- Assess the risks and have a safety plan. Think about what you would do if you felt threatened.
- Be prepared to scream or shout if attacked.
- Respect your intuition. Don't allow rationality to override your 'sixth sense' it could save you from danger.
- Consider taking personal safety classes. For details of free classes, contact the Brisbane City Council
- If exercising, jog with a group of friends.
- Don't use earphones connected to a portable music device when out alone. It will distract you from who and what is happening around you.
- When you are socialising, don't leave your drink unattended, don't drink too much; keeping a clear head makes it easier to make wise decisions when it comes to personal safety.
- If assaulted don't suffer in silence. Report the incident. Reporting the incident to Security does not commit you to a court case. Police action will only be taken if you wish.
- Carry a mobile phone with you. You may need to call a taxi, a friend or Security.
- If using a public phone once you have dialed turn your back to the phone and speak looking outwards.
