Assess the risks and have a safety plan. Think about what you would do if you felt threatened.

Consider taking a self defence course. For details of courses, contact the Student Guild.
If exercising, jog with a group of friends.
Don't use earphones connected to a portable music device when out alone. It will distract you from who and what is happening around you.
When you are socialising, don't leave your drink unattended, don't drink too much; keeping a clear head makes it easier to make wise decisions when it comes to personal safety.
If assaulted don't suffer in silence. Report the incident. Reporting the incident to Security does not commit you to a court case. Police action will only be taken if you wish.
Carry a mobile phone with you. You may need to call a taxi, a friend or Security.
If using a public phone once you have dialed turn your back to the phone and speak looking outwards.
