Work Cover and Rehabilitation in FM
All FM Staff are insured for Workers Compensation through WorkCover QLD. Claims are determined by WorkCover QLD, as per current workers compensation insurance legislation.
FM Staff are covered for:
- Work caused injury or illness
- Journey injuries - to or from work (under specific conditions)
Each case is individually assessed by WorkCover QLD as authorised under the Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.

Contractors and delivery drivers (visitors) are not covered by QUT's WorkCover insurance policy, while working on campus. However, if they are employed directly by a contracting company, labour hire company or delivery company, they will be covered under that company's WorkCover policy.
Workplace Rehabilitation at QUT
The aim of QUT's workplace rehabilitation program is to assist in the recovery of any staff member who has suffered a work related injury or illness and is unable to resume or continue in their normal duties or tasks.
Some non-work related injury or illness may also receive rehabilitation assistance, but these cases should be referred to the QUT Senior Rehabilitation Adviser for further guidance.
QUT's rehabilitation program is accredited by Q-Comp and usually managed by QUT through the QUT Senior Rehabilitation Co-ordinator, the local work area Supervisor / Manager and the injured staff member.

The features of the QUT Rehabilitation program include:
- Medical supervision (by treating doctor)
- Suitable duties programs
- Gradual return to normal duties
- Time limited
- Monitoring by QUT Rehabilitation team
- Use of external rehab providers as required (e.g.: physiotherapists)
- Extensive communication between all stakeholders.
