Through Preventive Maintenance programs and contract administration, the Facilities Management Operations Section is responsible for the proper operation of all fire detection, prevention and suppression devices, as well as the maintenance of fire extinguishers. Should extinguishers be discharged or stolen, please report to the Helpdesk on extension 83000.
To ensure complete reliability in the event of a fire, the following components undergo regular testing, inspecting and maintenance:
- fire extinguishers and hose reels
- fire alarms and fire panels
- fire hydrants and pumps
- fire sprinklers
- fire doors
- building evacuation systems
- emergency and exit lighting
The Operations Section presently administers preventive maintenance contracts for the maintenance of fire detection and protection systems, and emergency lighting systems.
All campus buildings and University properties are regularly checked for compliance with state and local government ordinances, along with University regulations relating to fire safety. Facilities Managment will investigate all complaints/queries regarding matters of fire safety on University property, and will take the necessary steps to advise upon or correct a potential fire hazard.
