QUT has an obligation to its employees under the Building Fire and Safety Regulation 1991 to ensure every person working in the building receives instruction on the emergency evacuation procedures.

The wardens can be identified by their hard hat colours, White for Building Wardens and Red for Wardens, they will also be wearing a fluorescent yellow vest.

Fire alarms, when a building or area is in alarm you will hear two distinct warning sounds, The "Alert" and the "Evacuate". The alert signal is to make you aware of an emergency situation and you should standby for the evacuation tone or further verbal instructions, it also warns the floor wardens that they should take up their designated positions and prepare for an evacuation. The evacuate signal is the signal for occupants to leave the building.

All staff should assist any non QUT staff or students to the nearest exit.

Person in charge of classes, meetings etc are responsible for the safe evacuation of those in attendance to the designated assembly area.
