Guidelines - Function catering at QUT
All catering purchased by QUT or its agents for official purposes must conform to the purchasing guidelines applying within the University and represent good value for money.
Generally there are no restrictions on users to choose a particular operator, with both on-campus and off-campus catering operators permitted to cater for functions at QUT. The following exception applies to the general guideline.
GARDENS POINT CULTURAL PRECINCT - Gardens Theatre, Art Museum and Old Government House (until refurbishment)
Food Service
Bar Merlo – Gardens Theatre has “first right of refusal” on catering in these areas.
The principles behind the right are as follows:
- When catering is required in these locations, QUT Gardens Cultural Precinct will negotiate in the first instance with a client to choose from Bar Merlo's standard set of menus.
- Should the standard menus not be suitable for the client's needs, the Cultural Precinct will arrange a joint meeting between the client, Bar Merlo and the Cultural Precinct (if required) so that an individualised menu may be created.
- If the client does not accept Bar Merlo's catering proposal, then the selection of a caterer will be at the discretion of the hirer.
- Alternative caterers are not permitted to operate from Bar Merlo's facilities
Alcohol Service (Gardens Theatre Foyer and Atrium only)
Bar Merlo hold the On Premise Liquor Licence for the Gardens Theatre Foyer and Atrium and have exclusive rights to serve alcohol in this designated area under the Liquor Act. This On Premise Liquor Licence does not apply to the Art Museum or Old Government House.
(NB: Alcohol and food service can be provided by separate catering contractors for events in the Gardens Theatre Foyer and Atrium should the client not accept Bar Merlo's catering proposal).
