Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the design and installation of all signs fixed to university buildings and in public spaces. Approval of the Associate Director Capital Works is required for all signs within public areas of the university.
FM is responsible for signage on new capital works or refurbishment projects undertaken by the university. Project signage usually includes Building Directory Signs and key locational signs such as doors to offices and teaching spaces. The signage requirements will be implemented by the QUT Project Coordinator assigned to the project and will be undertaken in accordance with the QUT Design Standards & Guidelines.
FM is responsible for design and installation of the university wayfinding and location identification signs. Regular reviews and annual updates are implemented for this important university requirement.
QUT Faculties, Divisions, Institutes, and Departments may request additional signage within their controlled spaces via FM Campus Services Users are also responsible for updating the building directory signs and room occupant signs where they have made changes independent of a building project.
FM is also responsible for all portfolio statutory signage such as Fire Evacuation Diagrams, public toilets etc. Individual building wardens are responsible to maintain building warden notices and to notify Facilities Management when Evacuation diagrams require updating. The relevant Health & Safety representatives are responsible for specific safety operational signs.
Signage Standards are essential for providing consistency and to present a continuous visual identity for the university. Graphic requirements for all QUT signs are contained in the QUT Corporate Identity Manual
