Within Facilities Management, it is the responsibility of the Capital Works Section to coordinate, manage and deliver all new building works. Our aim is to provide an efficient, high quality service to the University's Faculties, Schools, Divisions and Departments, throughout the development and completion of their projects.This involves the construction of new buildings and structures, as well as the refurbishment and alteration of existing buildings and structures, and the associated fit-out required for occupation and use.In broad terms, the Capital Works Section provides the following services:
- Project planning
- Project and procurement management
- Design and documentation
- Cost planning and control
- Construction management and contract administration
- Procurement and placement of project specific furniture and equipment
- Coordination of temporary accommodation and equipment
- Capital Works have produced a Project Procedures Kit (PPK), which provides an overview of the way a QUT project is delivered. The PPK is of benefit to both Clients and external service providers
- The Capital Works Section however, is not responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and repair of University buildings (eg light bulbs, electrical faults or air conditioning problems). Such maintenance problems are the responsibility of Operations Section staff.
The Asset Management Plan is reviewed from time to time in the light of actual expenditure and the overall financial position of the University, eg the strategy is revised after a major building has been completed and the actual costs, as opposed to those estimated, are known.
