Removal and Relocation

QUT does not have staff members whose duties include the removal or relocation of furniture and first hand experience within the University has also shown that injuries can easily occur if persons engage in the moving of furniture and do not have training and equipment appropriate to the task. Please also note that removal, relocation or disposal of furniture associated with a building project is separate to the following processes. Arrangements in these instances are coordinated by the Project Manager / Capital Works Section as an integral part of the project.

The removal or relocation of furniture at other times can be achieved in the following ways:

Have Campus Services Staff Make all the Arrangements

This can be accomplished simply by sending an email to the link qut.furniture@qut.edu.au and providing the cost centre account code and job details. Details should include the quantity and type of furniture that needs to be removed or disposed of, the current and intended location and who is the contact person for the job. A Campus Services staff member will reply to your email request within 24 hours during a normal working week.

The cost of the contractor and all other fees and any internal charges related to the move and this service will be debited to the cost centre account provided.

It is important to understand that where there is only a single or small number of items involved and in order to keep charges as low as possible Campus Services will give you an option of delaying the removal or relocation until such time as there is a quantity of work that will make more efficient use of the contractors time and any travel costs. This is entirely the clients option and urgent moves will be treated accordingly, subject to the normal lead time the contractors require.

Make Arrangements Direct with the Service Provider

If you prefer to coordinate the activity yourself, Campus Services can supply you with the contact details for the current service provider. Use the link qut.furniture@qut.edu.au to request the information.

Cost savings can be achieved by combining a number of moves and a self-subscribed (through QUT Virtual) interest group has been established to enable you to contact other staff who are planning moves or who have arranged a contractor on a particular day. The email address is qut.furniture_moves@qut.edu.au

Disposal of Furniture

It is important to note that disposal of furniture is quite a separate process to the disposal of assets. Disposal of assets is handled within the cost centre according to Finance and Resource Planning policies, procedures and guidelines. Please refer to the Division of Finance and Resource Planning web site for information concerning the disposal of assets.

Should you only have a single item of damaged furniture for dumping that can be transported without the need for a trolley or other special equipment please contact the Cleaning Supervisor on the campus you are located to arrange a time for the item to be inspected. If it falls within the above parameters the Cleaning Supervisor will arrange for the item to be disposed of without cost.

Campus Services can also arrange for the disposal of larger quantities of furniture on your behalf should you wish. This is an extension of the process for the removal of furniture and you should specify disposal action in the details forwarded to Campus Services as per the Removal and Relocation information.

Should you prefer to make arrangements yourself the easiest approach is to use Queensland Purchasing Disposals who have a standing offer arrangement with State Purchasing. They will ask if you are prepared to wait for the item to be collected during one of their routine collection runs as it will reduce the cartage cost considerably. If however you require the item to be disposed of quickly and are prepared to pay for that convenience you should specify early removal on the form available at their website.

For assistance on relocations or further information please use the email links above or contact Campus Services by phone on extn 83561 or 83940

Feedback

In order to maintain the best possible service from the various contractors and to continually improve processes relating to the removal, relocation and disposal of furniture, Campus Services would appreciate feedback from all who use the service or the contractors nominated.
